The Bauchi State Government established Advanced Teachers’ College at Azare, in 1977, this was about one year after the state was created out of the then North Eastern State. In 1976 when the state was created there were only 18 post-primary institutions in the state.

Our History
The Bauchi State Government established Advanced Teachers’ College at Azare, in 1977, this was about one year after the state was created out of the then North Eastern State. In 1976 when the state was created there were only 18 post-primary institutions in the state. The State Government depended on teachers from other states as well as expatriate staff to run its institutions. With the launching of the Universal Primary Education (UPE) in 1976 the need of additional teachers become dearer. Thus, Advanced Teachers’ College Azare was established to serve that need. The College had a humble beginning. It was initially housed in a primary school complex donated by the Katagum Local Government Authority.

- UMTE candidates must have a minimum of one hundred and eighty (150) JAMB cut-up points and five (5) credits in ordinary levels which must include English, Mathematics and the field of Candidates with Grade II Certificate are eligible for admission.
- Direct entry candidates must possess eight points (8) in NCE or Diploma in addition to ordinary levels stated in one above. Candidates who wish to study health education must have an additional credit in Biology or Health
Any other additional regulations or information provided by JAMB and Directorate of Affiliated Collages, University of Maiduguri from time to time.

Registration News
All successful candidates are expected to log onto college portal to using their usernames and password, pay registration fee, register their courses and print their payment receipts and semester registration forms. Login portal for NCE students is ascoea_nce.safsrms.com while for Undergraduate students is ascoea_degree.safsrms.com.
Admission
General Admission Requirements
- A Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSC) WAEC, NECO or GCE 'O' Level, NABTEB and any other equivalent with Four (4) Credits at one or two sittings. Two of the Credits must be relevant to the course the candidate wishes to offer. Credits in English and/or Mathematics may be required in some courses to meet departmental requirement.
- A Grade II Teacher’s Certificate (TC II) with credit or merit in five subjects, two of which must be relevant to the course the candidate wishes to offer. Credit/Merit in English Language and/or Mathematics may be a requirement in some courses.
- For candidates wishing to offer courses in vocational and Technical Education, R.S.A. or City and Guilds/intermediate Certificate or the federal Craft training Certificate in Nigeria or abroad, is also an acceptable qualification.
- Successful candidates in the Pre-NCE final examinations who in addition taking and succeeding in a selection examination organized by an accredited matriculation examination body would also be qualified for admission.
- All candidates wishing to be considered for admission must enroll for, write and past the selection examination organized by an accredited body such as JAMB at a satisfactory level

The college runs Postgraduate Diploma in Education, Postgraduate Diploma in Management, Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration and Policy, Diploma in Health Education and promotion as well as certificates in Health Education and Promotion in affiliation with the University of Maiduguri. Also, it runs Postgraduate Diploma in Criminology, Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Management and Diploma in Criminology in affiliation with the Federal University Dutse
